Monday Morning Alka-Seltzer - October 2013

October 28

For today, tomorrow and all of the days that follow, it’s not all about what God can do for you and me, rather it’s all about what you and I can do for God.

October 21

When you are in a foul mood here’s an antidote that works: think of three things about which you are thankful and then thank your Father in heaven for them. Your mood will change.

October 15

Yesterday’s Gospel reading was about the ten lepers whom Jesus healed and only one returned to give Him thanks. My homily challenged my listeners to consider the other nine who didn’t give Him thanks. What happened to them? How did they live out their lives? What are the effects of gratitude and what are the effects of ingratitude?

Something to think about.

October 7

How long, O LORD? I cry for help

but you do not listen!

I cry out to you, "Violence!"

but you do not intervene.

Why do you let me see ruin;

why must I look at misery?

Destruction and violence are before me;

there is strife, and clamorous discord.

Then the LORD answered me and said:

Write down the vision clearly upon the tablets,

so that one can read it readily.

For the vision still has its time,

presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint;

if it delays, wait for it,

it will surely come, it will not be late.

Habakkuk 1:23; 2:24

We need to remember that God is the Lord of history and He will not take back His promise. Our hope for a better world isn't just our own wishful thinking, it’s grounded on the fidelity of God. Despair is a tool of the devil.
